Question by Stacy: Are there any natural antidepressants available that would work on an alcoholic?
My father in law is an alcoholic. He is 60+ and it does not appear that he has an interest in getting help with his alcoholism. He’s gone to the VA…they gave him antidepressants. However, he won’t take them because he can’t drink while taking them. Is anyone familiar with any natural antidepressants that won’t effect him negatively if he continues to drink?

Yerba mate tea. Get the Bija brand, it’s the best. Put some local honey in it, it will help his immune system.
Also, the doctor needs to give him folic acid, it helps alcoholics.
And give him a food multi-B and lots of vitamin C and D.

You need to go to your states web site and laws. Unfortunately you really need an attorney. Look for the listings that have free legal help, each state should have that available. Good Luck!

Alcoholic needs booze at 5 am to stop withdrawel symptoms, how would they detox and get to rehab?

Question by Sweetness: Alcoholic needs booze at 5 am to stop withdrawel symptoms, how would they detox and get to rehab?
Just curious. My sister-in-law Deanna is the mother of 4 kids, two adults, two minors. Her alcoholism has progressed a lot in the past 3 years since I first met her until now. The kids tell me that now she is having to get up and drink early in the morning to manage all of her withdrawel symptoms. I don’t think she is going to get help, but i’m curious about how would someone this advanced detox and get help? Please share a story, or any information that you know about this. Thanks in advance.
just looking for answers to the question, not so much for my sis-in-law as she will never get treatment – intervention won’t work, long family history, gets drunk daily with hubby, kids, and her mother. Yes, I’ve called everyone under the sun about protection for kids – no response. I’ve been told being an alcoholic isn’t a crime by childrens protective services and law enforcement. Just curious if she did get help, the medical side of what would be necessary to get her detoxed and into a rehab. Thanks much for all the answers!

Answer by **STARR**
the best way to get help for her would be to contact a rehab facility. First your sister in law needs to realize and want help. If you don’t know where you can find the nearest or best rehab facility, i’m sure you can contact a doctor or hospital and get references. I hope your sister in law gets help soon.

Would outpatiet recovery/rehab show up on some1′s regular medical records?

Question by milexali: Would outpatiet recovery/rehab show up on some1′s regular medical records?
A family member wants to enter a recovery program on an outpatient basis so they can continue on with life, uninterrupted. The only concern is the privacy of it. Would something like this show up on a medical history? I know that HIPPA laws regulate privacy issues, but I also know you are forced to sign things sometimes in order to participate in some medical treatments. So, is rehab something that has to be on your medical history, that can be accessed by general practitioners, hospitals, ect? Or is it something that can be kept absolutely private and off all records except the recovery facility? Also, would it ever be brought up in any court situations or future employers? God forbid the court situation, but you never know!

What should I do??? Any Advice would be GREAT!!?

Question by wowsers: What should I do??? Any Advice would be GREAT!!?
Well I have a 9mnth old daughter and me and the father split up. way before she was even born. He doesnt make an effort at all to see her and I have given him plenty of oppurtunitys. He has cancelled on her half of the times we were suppose to meet. He is ordered to pay 0 in child support and has yet to pay even that. Which in my mind I think that is nothing considering I pay 165 a week in child care. insurance premium which is 96 plus copay , shots, clothes, and everything she needs!!! He has not even given me any money or offered to help buy anything for her. We dont have any court order visitiation in place because he has not legitimated the child. I have sole custody of her by law, being an unmarried mother. Only reason I have child support is because child support recovery requested his info since I had her on medicaid at the time and if I wanted my daughter to have health insurance I have to cooperate with them. I did and now he is order to pay cs. But I got a better job and cancelled med. and got her bcbs. Well in the scheme of things I met this wonderful loving guy who treats me with respect, who loves my daughter, not to mention I am really in love with this guy. After several months of dating he asked me to Marry him and proposed to me and asked if he could take me and my daughter. not just me ? I dont know what to do? I know what my heart wants for my daughter. I want her to have a dad who loves and cares about her like his own. Which in my mind I know for a fact he is serious about us. He has helped me out with her, financially , he is so great with her, and whenever we have a spend time together he always makes sure I am bringing my daughter with. He really truely loves her and Me. Since me and my daughter bio father have never been married and legally he is not on the birth certificate should I marry the man of my dreams, and would it be best or not for my daughter???
in fact we were never married to begin with
Best answer:
Answer by Lucille
The best thing you can do for your child is for her to have a loving father, the bio dad was just a sperm donor, it is clear he is not stepping up to the plate, he is a dead beat dad. Forget about him! If this new guy is willing to marry you and adopt your daughter, let him, he sounds like a man who is willing to take responsibility. I don’t even know why you’re asking this question, the answer is obvious!

I support abolishing the prescription drug laws. If they were abolished TODAY, what is the FIRST med you would purchase at your friendly neighborhood pharmacy? The first purchase I’d make is a vial of 100 OxyContin.

Question by suez: Survey: What would you do and Why?
Same date – different hours – different counties
I have a court date to recovery documents from family members that have put their names on the title of my inherited property. The date was extended because the parties made it difficult for the Sheriff’s to served them at their home. I also have been fighting for these documents for ten years and the court has finally ordered that they be delivered on the court date. It took the court clerk two and a half hours just to change the date and I was #10 out of 10 hearings that day. I do not know what # I will be on the new date or how long it will take.
I also received a letter from an agency that accepted my resume in the career field I am in; I have been out of work for 10 months and I have received six responses for interviews in my field. I have received interviews in other fields, but I know what I am great at.
I am going to try and reschedule the interview tomorrow, but if I have to make a choice, I can not think clearly at this moment and they are of equal value to me.
Y.A. people you have some good ideas and thoughts can you share yours with me.
Crying from frustration – Thank you

Question by Uhlan: If you were the judge, what would you do now in the Spears-Federline custody matter?
I know it’s tabloid to care, but here goes anyway.
Having been around a few family law judges before, I doubt very much that this particular judge will take any further crap from young Ms. Spears.
I would not be surprised one bit if Spears was stirpped of all but occasional supervised visitation and ordered to seek substantial drug/alcohol/mental counseling prior to any further review by the Court.
Yes, no, or don’t care?

Would you offer to send money to a family member when….?
Posted by admin in Uncategorized on July 11, 2010
This is the situation?
There are several family members who have died from alcoholism. 2 died many years ago the exact same way- their esophagus burst and bled out because their liver had failed from heavy drinking (when the liver fails it can put pressure on the esophagus, causing it to burst).
Despite this, several family members continued to drink. Then 2 years ago another one died from liver failure from drinking.
Now another one is experiencing the same esophageal bleeds that 2 other members died from. He has two children- one who is married with three kids and is in her 30′s. His son is in his mid 20′s and has been attending college since 2005.
We have been asked to help the son (who is a cousin) with paying for college because his Dad (the one who is now experiencing esophageal bleeding from heavy drinking) could not pay.
His Dad is such a bad alcoholic that he has been on disability for years. He has been in prison for drugs years ago. Despite being on disability, he has been given a place to live by his sister (he pays rent with his disability money). He has never been forced to go to rehab and has spent his disability money on alcohol for years.
His sister claims that you cannot make a person quit drinking and that they have tried to make him stop. Yet she has given him a place to live and ignored the fact that he spent his disability money on alcohol.
Now we are being told that his son, who is in his mid 20′s and still in college needs money to help pay for school. Apparently his Dad gave him some of his disability money (but spent a good portion of the rest of it on alcohol), but now that he has got astronomical medical bills as a result of his drinking, he cannot give his son any money for school.
It is not clear whether the son who is in college drinks, but I think he does.
Is it our responsibility as his cousins to send money to help pay for his schooling? We have a 4 year old and a 6 month old. The 6 month old has health problems that are not covered fully by insurance. We have some financial strains ourself but are not expecting other family members to help us out financially.
What do you think?
Thank you for all of your answers- the family member who ‘hints’ at the need for $$$ to ‘clean up the mess’ of this irresponsible alcoholic is a narcissitic manipulator. She wants the glory of ‘saving’ him, but puts him as well as other family members in extreme codependency on her. She tells everyone she is ‘helping’ them but the only ‘help’ she is providing is learned helplessness with extreme dependence on her. This is more disturbing than the ‘hinting’ (she is never direct and is emotionally punishing if you don’t do things her way) for money…it is SICK.
Does this sound like it would work?

Tea Tree Oil can be used as a highly effective douche treatment against yeast infections. It is recommended that you purchase a small dropper bottle that can be used to store the solution.
* Combine 1 teaspoon of Tea Tree Oil with 1 teaspoon of isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol).
* Mix the solution, which should appear milky white.
* Store the solution in the dropper bottle.
* Add 10 drops of the solution to a pint of water.
* Use this douche once a day for a week in order to rinse the vagina.
OMG! Why would the U.K., give Ted Kennedy an award?
Posted by admin in Uncategorized on July 6, 2010
Has the Queen of England lost her mind? Is sucking up to Obama, sucking up to one of Obama’s fellow leaders in the socialist revolution, important enough to give an award to a true American criminal and British traitor?
Lets look at Ted Kennedy’s legacy:
1) caught twice for cheating in college
2) led a lifetime of selfishness- adultery, alcoholism and hard drug use
3) committed felony manslaughter & then bullied the victim’s family and the local authorities, escaping justice and 20 years in prison that anyone else would have been punished, never going to prison for his crime- abandoning a young lady to drown so he could sober up and try to claim he was not there…..
4) Ted’s senate legacy is raising the minimum wage for high school students
5) father, Joe, the Irish mafia racketeer betrayed the U.K. to the nazi movement, when he was UK diplomat, during WWII
6) lived off of his criminal father’s blood-money, never earning a dime by hard work
But, Ted Kennedy has always carried the socialist flag, SO, all his human failures, his lifetime of cheating, lying and abuse of power, his legacy of supporting socialism, his shameful arrogance as one of the biggest hypocrites of our political lifetime doesn’t matter, BUT Teddy carries the socialist flag; for liberals, everything negative you have ever done is over-looked, if you kneel at the altar of socialism and kiss Hollywood’s brown ring!
How can the citizens of the U.K. over-look Ted Kennedy’s support of IRA terrorism that murdered innocent women and children?
Has the queen lost her mind, planning to knight a true rogue and traitor?
I say, may the devil claim his spawn, sooner than later. What do you say?

geniepiper- keep drinking the socialist Kool-Aid, BUT if you did want to know the truth about the Kennedys, read “The Dark Side of Camelot” by Hirsh, many allegations are referenced in this book- the NY Times went on record, to say this was a well researched book.
Read the book by the Kennedy cousin, attorney Joe Gargan, he was one of the men at Chapaquicdick, who tried to save Mary Jo; Joe Gargan acknowledged Ted was drunk (DUI), drove into the canal, did not call rescue (bypasssed neighbors who’s lights were on, did not try to call for help) then swam across the water, to check into a hotel to sober up, the next AM. Ted committed felony manslaughter, DUI, left the scence of a fatality- what a guy! .

Running head: MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEWING TREATMENT ON COLLEGE BINGE DRINKING STUDENTS
Motivational Interviewing Treatment on College Binge Drinking Students
John Jay College of criminal justice
Psychology 268 – Section 01
Instructor: Prof. Gregory I. Mack, Ph.D.
December 22, 2008
College students binge drink for many reasons, which results in long-term health risks. Many college students binge drink in order to fit in with fraternity, sororities members, and/or dormitories that sometimes insists on having young college students to drink especially lots of types of alcoholic drinks. College students drink a variety of alcoholic beverages from light to heavy alcoholic beverages that increase health risks and psychological health risks such as heart diseases and brain abnormalities. Treatments such as motivational interviewing can help lessen the consumption of alcohol and allow the college students who binge drink to slowly recover from this disease they have developed of binge drinking. Means comparisons indicated that both groups showed reductions in alcohol-related problems, however, only the Motivational Interviewing sample evidenced significant reductions in binge drinking (Feldstein, S., & Forcehimes, A., 2007). Misuse of alcohol can lead to a wide range of consequences, the most severe being alcohol abuse, dependence, and death (Devos-Comby, L. & Lange, J., 2008). The median number of drinks in a row that a college man or women must have to be called a binge drinker is 6 for a man and 5 for a woman (Wechsler, H., & Kuo, M. (2000).
Treatments such as motivational interviewing can benefit specifically college students who drink alcohol in sororities or fraternities that, binge drink. Motivational interviewing is a style of counseling that can be used throughout the therapeutic process (Jarvis, Tebbutt, Mattick & Shand, p.45). Since college students struggle with changing their habits and making a decision to change motivational drinking is a good technique in helping them with that problem. Binge drinking is a common problem that many college students are facing throughout their college lives. There are many alcoholic specific treatments that offer a wide range of help to allow those who suffer from binge drinking to be able to recovery from the alcoholic abuse. Yet, motivational interviewing can be used to begin the process of thinking about changing their ways on drinking (Jarvis, Tebbutt, Mattick & Shand, p.45). Motivational interviewing will allow oneself to make his or her own choices in deciding to stop excessive drinking patterns and set a plan to change the alcoholic behavior.
There are a couple of successful ways in which binge drinking can be helped. Findings show that more education and provision of coping skills training during treatment may influence self-efficacy by increasing the coping resources of a patient with SUD (McKellar, Ilgen & Moos, 2008).
The present findings suggest that individuals who report the greatest initial improvements in alcohol-related problems and impulsivity may have difficulty maintaining a high level of self-efficacy (McKellar, Ilgen & Moos, 2008). One brief intervention, motivational interviewing (MI) has shown efficacy in reducing alcohol-related problems in college samples (Feldstein, S., & Forcehimes, A., 2007). When compared with MI, other interventions have also reduced student drinking, necessitating the inclusion of a control condition when evaluating
MI (Feldstein, S., & Forcehimes, A., 2007). While participants reported feeling increased discrepancy from their peers and increased desire to reduce drinking, no behavior change emerged (Feldstein, S., & Forcehimes, A., 2007).
Alcohol students encounter binge drinking due to a form of social entertainment with other college students. Alcohol is the main factor in which students have no control since the process to reduce alcohol consumption is a difficult process. Some types of treatments to consider for alcoholic students are detoxification. Also college students have a hard time in understanding themselves.
There are many factors that contribute to alcohol such as society, pressure, and stress. As a college student, alcohol is a way to release the negativity of life and just use alcohol as a mean to numb the pain one goes through. In order to understand what treatment is best for oneself several steps should be considered to see which treatment is best for one. Consideration of selection and socialization effects is central to understanding how substance use relates to fraternity, and sorority membership (McCabe, Schulenberg, Johnston, O’Malle

I’ve alreadty submitted it to my professor via email so let me know what you think plzzzz
Some college students have alcohol for different reasons such as social parties, celebrations, and/or stressful events as well. There are many factors that fit in to why college students binge drink for which result in long-term health risks. Motivational interviewing is an effective treatment for college students who drink excessive amounts of alcohol in that it allows a person to freely choose to change their behavior to drink.
Motivational interviewing is a style of counseling that can be used throughout the therapeutic process (Jarvis, Tebbutt, Mattick & Shand, p.45). Yet, motivational interviewing can be used to begin the process of thinking about changing their ways on drinking (Jarvis, Tebbutt, Mattick & Shand, p.45). Motivational interviewing allows a person to no longer drink anymore and resolve standing issues that cause them to drink in the first place. Motivational interviewing will allow oneself to make his or her own choices in deciding to stop excessive drinking patterns and set a plan to change the alcoholic behavior.
The key to motivational interviewing is to give motivation and offer some hope to your client in order for them to change their ways on drinking. There are certain types of styles of listening when using this technique of motivational interviewing treatment. One is empathy in where the therapist puts themselves in the same position as the patients and allows a relationship to develop with the client, which can allow the client to change (Jarvis, Tebbutt, Mattick & Shand, p.46). The goal for motivational interviewing is to have your client talk about deciding to change the use of alcohol. Traditional confrontations methods such as offensive tactics that are both unhelpful and counter-protective in getting the client to change and therefore motivational interviewing avoids and confrontational tactics (Jarvis, Tebbutt, Mattick & Shand, p.46).
Findings show how alcohol has its downfall with individuals and the outcomes for it are hazardous. this man we know as a victim has yet to change his life around!
I’m not trying to justify what the cops did was right but since this man was assault he was award 3mil and is still causing problems. After the riots King was awarded $3.8 million in a civil case, and used some of the money to start a hip hop music label, Straight Alta-Pazz Recording Company. He subsequently moved to Rialto, California. King also made a cameo on an episode of BET’s ComicView.
He was arrested again for spousal assault in 1999. In 2001, he was then ordered to undergo a year of drug treatment after pleading guilty to three counts of being under the influence of PCP and one of indecent exposure. On August 27, 2003, he was arrested again on similar charges as in 1991. It is alleged that King was speeding, ran a red light while under the influence of alcohol, failed to yield to police officers, and then slammed his SUV into a house, breaking his pelvis. Now he on VH1 doing a rehab show for money.
I’m just saying.. Don’t you think 55 deaths would make your change the way you live?? He could of been the 56th
Would letting him go to jail help to show him that drinking is not the answer??
Posted by admin in Uncategorized on July 2, 2010
I have a brother 4 years older then me and I am constantly getting him out of trouble with the cops. I have put out so much money on his problem that I can’t do it anymore. He knows that he is looking at 4 years in jail with all his DUI’s. He has a court order stating that he is not allowed to drink at all. He’s not driving at least but he won’t even slack off drinking. He is drinking his self to death.
He is a pipefitter by trade and his Union won’t even try to get him a job. He has been fired off of so many job sites. I had to fire him from the company that I worked for when I got him a job there. It was that or possibly let him hurt someone else and hurt the company.
Anyway, I am wondering if I am hurting him more then I am helping him. Should I just say welcome to the real world and let him deal with his own problems? I’ve tried everything. He has been in ReHab 2 times. He has done weekends in jail. He has lost his kids. Nobdy can or will hire him.
Would JAIL Help????
