Question by Stacy: Are there any natural antidepressants available that would work on an alcoholic?
My father in law is an alcoholic. He is 60+ and it does not appear that he has an interest in getting help with his alcoholism. He’s gone to the VA…they gave him antidepressants. However, he won’t take them because he can’t drink while taking them. Is anyone familiar with any natural antidepressants that won’t effect him negatively if he continues to drink?

Best answer:

Answer by Leo D
Yerba mate tea. Get the Bija brand, it’s the best. Put some local honey in it, it will help his immune system.

Also, the doctor needs to give him folic acid, it helps alcoholics.

And give him a food multi-B and lots of vitamin C and D.

Question by Mary ;P: Does Niacin REALLY work to pass a drug test?
I personally know many people who have used niacin 500mg before a test and they all passed, when they should have all failed. For employment and even court ordered drug screens. So why do so many post here say it doesn’t work. Does it just produce a false negitive opposed to actually cleaning your system?

Best answer:

Answer by Johnny V
Niacin will only aid in flushing your system out. Depending on how much you smoke it is going to take at LEAST a week. Possibly 3 or 4 to clear the system (that’s like every day 6 or 7 times a day for months) But yes if you use niacin you can clear up your piss a lot faster. Be sure to exercise and drink water until your pissing every 30 min. DO NOT EXERCISE THE DAY OF THE TEST!! if you are really paranoid that you are going to fail your best bet is to drink so much water that when they test your urine it is pure H2O. They will take a few days to test it and it will give you some time before they ask for a retest.

Question by Matin R: How do the law enforcement officers who work in narcotics dress? Can they always wear a vest if they want to?
And which agent of narcotics enforcement has the authority to make arrests?..because I hear that a lot of them just do undercover work only..I really want to get into Police narcotics and I know that I have to first become a regular patrol officer and then work my way up..But I’m not interested in undercover..I just want to have the authority to go after drug dealers and make arrests.

Best answer:

Answer by Robert
Ok, I’m gonna answer this the best I can.

Narcotic officers can arrest people at any time, they can pull you over if they want. Generally they are plain clothed. If they are in “uniform” it’s typically camo with a department t-shirt and they’ll have a badge in sight (typically) and you’ll see their weapon. If they are going to court they’ll usually be in a suit. If they need to be in uniform they’ll be in uniform. They come into my work a lot and they’re typically in camo pants and a t-shirt.

To answer your question you can arrest drug dealers if you are a police officer. You just have to catch them! But you wont be going around making buys and doing investigating really… you just have to catch them with the drugs!

Question by cindysv764: How does a court ordered drug rehab halfway house program work? What is the process and procedures?
I like to know the length of the program, the process and prcedures? My boyfriend is sent to one, he was setenced to 365 days and his release date is Nov. 21 2006, but he is to do the program instead of the time. He has 2 mths credit time served already. Basically how long is the program’s process, when will he began to have visits and phone calls? Ect. He is determined to succeed in this program but I like more info because I want him back home asap! Can anyone help give me answers? PLEASE!
This halfway house is in Fresno Ca. I was unable to find any info online. I know there is a blackout period, someone told me it was 30 days but if it is anything like the group homes my daughter was in they had a 10 day blackout period. If the stay is only 4 mths that is great! The home had picked him up from county Friday and I have not heard from him since and it’s frusturating not knowing whats going on.

Best answer:

Answer by G.O.A.T.
I used to work in a halfway house, the process is usually different in different states here in California judges would order people to do a year but are almost always out in 4 months max. as far as phone calls and visits, that is up to whoever runs the home so you’d have to get that info from the Program Director but it’s usually a two week wait.

My brother was arrested last night, supposedly the story is that he went to help his wife at work, she is a bartender. She asked him to go and help her unload the alcohol cases. He said he went because there was no bouncer there last night. Anyways he told us they were trying to jump her and he was protecting her. I don’t know for sure but she said that some girl was starting stuff with her and I guess when they were leaving the people with this girl started messing with them and the though they were going to get jumped so I don’t know if they started fighting or what but of course something had to happen for cops to show up.

His wife said that no one was arrested accept for my brother because he was on parole and because he had alcohol in his system.

So now what happens, I went online to the inmate information to see what he was charged with and there is no charges on him only a parole hold.
Are there any chances that they will release him? Or does he automatically go back for 4 months just for the arrest?

I decided that I wanted to be a social worker when I realized that social work is very similar to psychology( my major in undergrad), except it puts more emphasis on helping people and finding their strengths rather than giving them a diagnosis and being predominantly problem-focused. My own decision in enjoying helping people with their problems influenced me to want to pursue a profession in social work.

Becoming a full professional with a graduate degree in Social Work represents the culmination of a life long of personal and professional preparation. I have so enjoyed working with people, helping them with their problems. At 34, I feel that I have the necessary maturity to perform at my very best level, again, as a student. I now also have a high level of motivation that accompanies my current position working with incarcerated youth, mostly minority. However, I am deeply concerned by the explosive incarceration rates in America, and the way African Americans and Hispanics lead the way going to jail, rather than college, working, etc. This sense of urgency makes me an excellent candidate for your Master’s program because I am so fully engaged with my place of employment. It is my sincere hope to be able to make some modest contribution to discussions of how to best counsel and care for at-risk youths, in my case my research interest is in boys, especially those at-risk for spending their young adulthood behind bars.My inspiration and level of motivation, it all speaks to be graduate school as a place where I belong.

I am currently working at Harbor View Adolescent Center as a Youth Counselor for incarcerated youth with behavioral and emotional problems in a residential treatment facility. In my job as a youth counselor, my primary work responsibility was to serve as a positive role model for adolescents aged twelve to eighteen. The residents had backgrounds of being homeless and victims of physical and sexual abuse. Some of them were also dealing with drug and alcohol abuse, depression, and the criminal justice system. At times, my job was extremely stressful. But I discovered that I had the ability to connect with the adolescents and develop strong emotional ties with them. I focused on helping them with their social skills, coping skills, and independent living skills. My main goal was to help them build their self-esteem and improve their sense of security.

The adolescents that I worked with in the residential treatment facility at times would get physically assaultive, throwing chairs and banging their heads on the doors. They would also exhibit self-harming behaviors. It was during these crisis situations that I would get stuck in knowing the best clinical approach to use when they were self-harming. I would like to have better tools for helping these kids when they are in crisis, and whether those interventions are well supported by the literature. I hope that with the aid of a Master’s degree in Social Work I will be able to do just that. I will be able to help my kids in crisis and am at teaching them the necessary skills so that they can transition into more independent living.

These youth need all the help and attention we can give them in order to fight recidivism, especially African American and Hispanic males, who continue to come back into our system. If you were to grant me the privilege of studying in your program, I hope to be able to research the recidivisim rates of black and Hispanic juveniles and young adoelscents so as to contribute to our understanding of how we can best go about saving their lives and, at the same time, easing the financial burdens on our society.

Or are those people destined to fail those programs because the programs are designed for believers?

I have asked this question already in cultures. But thought maybe i would get more responses from Religion & Spirituality
Im not going to one of those groups.
Im not a drug user and only drink at parties.
I was asking out of curiousity.
