Why can’t I get over my father?
Posted by admin in Uncategorized on July 13, 2010
It’s been 10 years since my father abandoned me. I just recently got back in-touch because I was hoping to get a perspective on things from someone who went through similar stuff and who might have the perspective of hindsight.
Problem is that he is still completely unapologetic about his behavior, his alcoholism, his sending me away to military school for no reason and tearing me away from all of the friends I had when I was a kid. He’s basically a bastard and I want a freakin’ apology.
He’s been a petty and not-so-petty con man his entire life. Spent time in prison for armed robbery in his 20s, has many ex-wifes, illegitimate kids I’ve never met, has been homeless and now is in Mexico living off of social security benefits.
Why can’t I seem to put this behind me? All conversations with him are circular. One moment he’ll tell me he loves me and in another will say that I’m the most selfish person he has ever known and that he no longer wants to talk to me. My family has a history of mental illness, so that may explain it – he may be unable to actually relate normally, in which case, again – how do I put this behind me? Why can’t his display of mental illness be enough to give me closure?
I’m successful, live in NYC, but am sorta lonely with very few friends. I know he’s spent his life largely friendless and I really wish I could get his perspective on how he’d do things differently if he had the chance to do so.

What is the best way to start over after going through a devastating addiction?
Posted by admin in Uncategorized on June 27, 2010
I just want to know if anyone can give me some ideas as to how they started their life over. I am 22 and I had a very devastating problem called bulimia for 5 years. I dropped out of two universities, got pregnant twice, went to jail, failed two treatment programs, almost died of alcohol poisioning, put my family through hell and wasted great amounts of money. All of those things were totally out of character. In high school I was such a conscientous perfectionist. Now I’m back in school and feel lost, scared, lonely, and discouraged because I know that I have to change everything about myself and learn to think in a whole different way about life and about who I am. I now feel that I finally have the strength to change but I am very overwhelmed and I worry a lot and feel guilty. I see a counselor, take an anxiety pill and they are helping but any ideas as to what other things I can do to stay on path to recovery?
A court appointed lawyer for 7 year old, did she step over the line?
Posted by admin in Uncategorized on May 8, 2010
My aunt’s boyfriend recently took his ex to court for sole custody of their 7 year old son. This woman has had no contact with the boy for over 5 years, he knows my aunt as mommy and wouldn’t know who his biological mother was if he ever saw her. My aunt and her boyfriend wanted to protect their son from his egg donor because she, in the last couple years, has been in and out of rehab and has been arrested several times. She became interested in knowing Derek only because she lost custody of two of her other sons to their fathers (she has five sons with four different men). Derek only knows one of his brothers, his older brother and every few months gets to see him. Because of this Derek is not clueless, he knows Joshua is his brother and that they have different fathers but my aunt is the only mother he knows. In court the egg donor continuously lied to the judge and gave out of service phone numbers in the court documents so she was denied visitation but ordered to pay $40 a week in child support – she claims she can’t afford that and has no begun talking about terminating her rights so she doesn’t have to pay. The court appointed Derek his own attorney even though he has no idea what’s going on. This lawyer told Derek my aunt wasn’t his “real” mom and that he was never in her belly. She also informed my aunt and her boyfriend it “must be” confusing to him to have an older brother – she said this because Derek told her about his older brother and said his brother lives with his father but couldn’t remember the name of his brother’s father. I think this woman had no right to tell Derek my aunt wasn’t his mother when its likely that soon his egg donor will be completely out of the picture for good. My aunt and her boyfriend obviously have no intention to lie to him if he asks about his biological mother but at this point they did not want to confuse him. My aunt wants to do something, such as inform the court that this woman was wrong but doesn’t know how to go about it.
In your opinion should my family be upset? And does my aunt and her boyfriend have any grounds to complain about this woman? If so, who would they contact?

In your opinion should my family be upset about what this woman told my cousin?
While I do appreciate all of your opinions I have to make it clear that one person in particular obviously did not read clearly. My aunt and her boyfriend never kept the truth from Derek about his biological mother. She came around once in awhile when he was young but never made an effort in the last five years to contact him. My aunt never told Derek she was his biological mother, in fact when he was little they tried getting him to call her by her name but he refused to call her anything but “mommy”. Derek is not completely clueless as some of you pointed out he knows he has brothers and obviously my aunt and even his father is not the parent of any of his brothers. As far as my aunt not being involved at all in this court system she had more rights than his egg donor because she’s been supporting him most of his life and he lives in her house. For example if she and his father split up my aunt could go to court and be given visitation b/c its the best interest of the child.
can a father sign over custody to his wife?
Posted by admin in Uncategorized on April 28, 2010
My husband has twin boys from his first marriage. His ex wife has caused alot of hell and abuses drugs. Not to long ago he recieved a phone call that his children were in danger because she owed a drug dealer. My husband handled his stress the wrong way and got drunk and got into some trouble. Since then he has attended counseling and alcohol treatment to learn to handle this stress appropriatly, he does done very well with his treatment and has controlled himself well. His ex wife filed for sole custody after she found out he got in trouble and we have to go to court tomorrow. Even though he went through the treatment and has been doing good he still has to serve 60 days in jail starting Sept. 1. Here is where it gets complicated. We have finally have proof of her drug abuse through medical records our lawyer got. She went to the hospital and after she tested positive for cocaine and marjuiana she checked herself into the psych unit and then checked herself out because they wouldn’t give her narcotic. The hospital said that she defintily has a drug problem all throughout her records. Therefore the children are in danger with her and her parents because her parents kept taking her to the hospital to get narcotics. Our question is that since we have this evidence, and the children are already used to spending every other week with us, Can my husband sign over his custody to me while he serves his 90 days? They have joint custody, but she is a danger to them and he is very concern. He says that he knows that he needs to suffer the consequences for his actions, but he doesn’t want to have to worry about his children everyday. I have no drug abuse history or anything on my criminal record. After his 60 this issue with him is done. Can we do this so I can keep the kids safe?
He only has to serve 60 days not 90 sorry. And he doesn’t have to check into the jail until Sept.1 so he is out right now.
he wants sole custody, but with him having to go to jail she says that she will get custody. So he wants to sign over custody temporarily to me so I can care for them while he is gone and when he gets out he will fight for sole custody.
Do you have to have your parents at underage drinking classes if you’re over 18? Doesn’t make sense.?
Posted by admin in Uncategorized on April 26, 2010
Ok, I am 20, 21 in just under 6 months, about a month ago I got an underage drinking ticket, zero tolerance, just a couple of beers, pretty sober. Anyways, went to court today, I have to take 3 two hour underage drinking deterrence classes in June, at the cost of $125, and your parents are REQUIRED to go to the first session, which isn’t a problem, but it’s making me question things regarding the drinking law, because at 20, I am two years past what is considered being an adult, so why do my parents have to come? This makes zero sense to me whatsoever. Anyone think it makes sense?
understood 21 is the legal age for consumption, but if 18 is the legal age for being an adult, why should your parents have to come with you to a class when you are out of their control?

In australia can a parent go to court and get power of attorney over their adult child?

In australia can a parent go to court and get power of attorney over their adult child?
my mild intellectually disabled friend has decided to move out of home he’s 24 doesn’t always make the best financial choices sometimes and drinks a lot border-lining on alcoholism because his parents insist on controlling his life, they give him little or no say in anything and make decisions and choices for him that he gets no say in, they don’t listen to him which is why he wants to move out so he can be independent.
he’s now telling me that because he has decided to move out on his own his parents have decided to take him to court to get power of attorney.
can they do that?
is there any basis to their argument if they base their reason on his disability?
can the fact that they take money off him and give him very little to spend and his money is placed in his mother’s name and she won’t give it to him even though she promised to when he hit 21 be used as an argument in his defence?
could it also be used in his defence that the reason he can’t handle money is because he really hasn’t had any (see point above) to learn how to control it?
can someone over 18 (under 21) be forced into rehab?
Posted by admin in Uncategorized on February 8, 2010
i have a family friend that has been in and out of rehab for cocaine and heroin and is now over 18… is there any way to get court ordered rehab for this person(texas)? she recently got a dui and is under 21. i know texas has a zero tolerance for that. will she be put on probation? or will the just take her license from her? i know for a fact that she would fail a drug test if she was put on probation. what can her family do… they tried once to put her in rehab after turning 18 but she checked out right way.
thanks in advance for any help you can lend.
