Would outpatiet recovery/rehab show up on some1′s regular medical records?

Question by milexali: Would outpatiet recovery/rehab show up on some1′s regular medical records?
A family member wants to enter a recovery program on an outpatient basis so they can continue on with life, uninterrupted. The only concern is the privacy of it. Would something like this show up on a medical history? I know that HIPPA laws regulate privacy issues, but I also know you are forced to sign things sometimes in order to participate in some medical treatments. So, is rehab something that has to be on your medical history, that can be accessed by general practitioners, hospitals, ect? Or is it something that can be kept absolutely private and off all records except the recovery facility? Also, would it ever be brought up in any court situations or future employers? God forbid the court situation, but you never know!

Electronic medical records: great, but not very private

Electronic medical records: great, but not very private
If you live in Texas, your medical records are definitely up for sale by the state. If you live anywhere else in the United States, they probably are for sale there, too.

What is wrong with my mother-in-law? She is an alcoholic and has recently developed medical issues!!!!?

Question by monkeylove: What is wrong with my mother-in-law? She is an alcoholic and has recently developed medical issues!!!!?
My mother-in-law has “age spots” covering her from wrist to elbow that are terribly purple. Recently, she told me that she’s having vaginal and rectal bleeding, yet refuses to see a physician.

I fear it may have to do with the drinking/liver. She is also a heavy smoker.

I know it’s impossible for me to make her see a doctor, but what do you think is wrong?

her alcoholism is catching up with her, the body can take only so much. She probably has severe hypertension which is causing the discoloration of her skin, she probably has bleeding ulcers causing her rectal bleeding and fibroid tumors causing her vaginal bleeding. And if she will not stop drinking or seek the aid of a physician, don’t plan on seeing her around for much longer.

Question regarding the release of medical information, in the case of a psychotic drug user?

Dr. Jones runs a rehab facilitly and is treating a psychotic drug user. The patient suddenly abandons the facility leaving a note that he plans to kill his ex-wife today. The patient has left behind his antipsychotic medicine that he must take every two hours. Dr. Jones

A. may not release this information because it’s confidential.
B. may release the information
C. may release the information only if the patient authorized such release in advance.
D. may release the information after obtaining a court order first.

These answers do not make sense to me. If the patient does harm his ex-wife, the ex-wife could sue Dr. Bob for failure to warn. So is warning the ex-wife considered “releasing the information”?

Can a UK lawyer request medical evidence of illness?

I have been suffering with disruptive and antisocial neighbours for 5 years now. The local housing office and the police say that they are unable to evict the perpetrators due to their illnesses and vulnerabilty and so I have had to endure 5 years of vandalism, noise and verbal abuse.

The neighbours in question state that they have betweent hem, cystic fibrosis and cancer and mental health issues (brought on by the alcoholism).

If I was to take this to a civil court for Breach of the Peace, could my lawyer request evidence of these so called complaints – which I am convinced are not true, anyone with cancer or cystic fibrosis would not have the energy to fight and argue in the way that these two do – which could go some way towards my pursuit of an eviction notice?

REally need advice, as I dont want to pay for a solicitor if they will not be able to help me.

Thanks in advance x

Why is the medical model of mental illness so widely accepted despite scant evidence in its favor?

To paraphrase Stanton Peele, we are set on proving that mental illness is primarily biological despite our consistent failures to date to substantiate this. Big Pharma, anyone? There is no conclusive evidence whatsoever that there is anything physical anomalous about say, schizophrenics, and interestingly, the onset of schizophrenia typically occurs during the peak of one’s physical prowess.

If diseases of the mind were literally diseases of the brain, wouldn’t psychiatry be swallowed by neurology? Is mental illness a metaphor we have taken literally?

Should state medical licensing boards and the courts be allowed to order mandatory AA/NA participation?

Should state medical licensing boards and the courts be allowed to order mandatory AA/NA participation?
I was an RN who self-reported a substance abuse problem to the NC board of nursing. One of the requirements is that the nurse not just attend meetings, but do all the “stuff” that the 12 steps require. With the main requirement that you profess to the group a belief in a “Higher Power”. Evidence of your participation and attitude have to be documented by your “sponsor” and submitted monthly to the NC Board of Nursing. Well, I believe that AA is inherently religious, and that this requirement violates the 2nd amendment. There were several Rn’s who were atheists and understandingly objected to the higher power nonsense, since by their nature as atheists they of course do not believe in a higher power. But the Board would not lift the requirement for them. I’m Christian, but I believe AA/NA are religious cults and my religion teaches against praying in groups outside of church services.
Sorry this is so long, but I’m dying to hear everyone’s opinion.
typo: “understandably”, not “understandingly”.
mnwomen:
As a matter of fact when I received my nursing license the subject of Board disciplining programs wasn’t in the by-laws. No one knows what their particular disciplinary actions will be until aech case is reviewed. But when I went to nursing school I didn’t plan to become addicted to drugs, so there was no reason to go before the board and say: “BTW when and if I get on drugs what is the board’s discipline policy”?
As far as the judicial system is concerned most people who drive impaired know what the consequences are before they do it, but that still does not give the government the right to violate the constitution as part of the punsihment.
Read the 2nd amendment.
Rosen: You’re definately in the minority amoung your colleagues I’m sure.
The NCBON wouldn’t hear of giving an option to choose behavioral therapy like R. Recovery, Lifering, etc. It’s so damn frustrating because I don’t think there are any hard studies that support AA’s claim that they have a “97%” recovery rate. Unfortunately the majority of SA IOP programs are run by step-nazis, at least here in Charlotte.

It’s a right to smoke, but isn’t it also a right for me not to pay for the medical bills of smokers?

I mean, we’re spending billions on medicaid, military, and federal workers to smoke and stay as healthy as possible. Charged for their maintenance because of a choice.

If I had a problem with alcohol as much as I had with tobacco, I’d be court ordered to rehab based on health reasons and public opinion, a danger to myself and others. A majority of the public is saying no to cigarettes. While at the same time the tobacco companies won’t give out any signifigant information on how second hand smoke effects other people.
Yay! Great, you pay your medical bills. What about the people who don’t? Does that make them exempt from smoking? Freedom is not free!
