Question by The fabulous one: How to avoid forced drug treatment? I haven’t used drugs since march! It’s October now.?
I’m on probation. Judge ordered drug and alcohol evaluation, mental health evaluation, ETC. I haven’t used drugs in over 7 months, and the drug and alcohol dirtbags want me to come for treatment anyway. My crime wasn’t even drug related. I have phsycological problems as well. I’ve maintained being clean for so long, I’m not worried about their testing. I don’t like to remember the past, because a lot of stuff deeply depresses me, and some stuff will affect me for my entire life. I have difficulty talking to people due to traumas from childhood. THIS IS TORTURE. There must be some kind of law against this. I’ve heard from other people that they are there for the money. My medicaid expired, I was also on food stamps and cash assistance, and i’m not reapplying because I want to go back to work. I don’t want to live on the system forever. Now I have to give them money out of my pocket that I don’t have, and I don’t even have a problem. I’m trying so hard to overcome a lot of issues, and these people are making things 10 times harder. Are there any laws or ways out of this? Sources and links would be very helpful as well.
wayne county pennsylvania. Or should i say HELLVANIA.
I’m being forced to talk to their drug counselors. i’m already going to counseling with a counselor I feel comfortable with. I’m facing my problems, but not with these people. As long as I don’t use drugs, and my system is clean upon testing, that’s what counts. Many times I tell them, “I don’t remember.” Actually, as long as I don’t relapse, which I know I won’t, I don’t have to tell them anything, do I?

Best answer:

Answer by Lunaria
Sorry but I think you are stuck in their system now which means you have to play by their rules. I know it sucks and the classes they usually offer are a joke anyways. About your past, you do need to face it at some point where you get to a place that talking about it is not so hard. If you don’t something could trigger it all to come back and haunt you again. But back to the main question, just do the classes and participate as much as possible so maybe they will shorten the length you have to do them.

ATHEISTS HAIL DECISION — NONBELIEVERS CANNOT BE
SENTENCED TO FAITH-BASED REHAB PROGRAMS AS PAROLE CONDITION

An Atheist public policy group praised a U.S. District Court Judge in California for defending the constitutional rights of a prison inmate who was compelled to attend religion-based drug and alcohol rehab sessions in order to qualify for parole.

Judge Garland E. Burrell Jr. ruled that California officials erred when they forced 41-year-old Barry A. Hazel Jr. to enroll in Alcoholics Anonymous after serving a one-year sentence for drug possession. Hazel, a computer programmer, demanded that he be given access to an alternative secular program instead, and was mistakenly informed that one was not available. After refusing to participate in the faith-based 12-step regimen, Mr. Hazel was re-arrested and had to serve another three months in jail.

Dr. Ed Buckner, President of American Atheists, praised the court for its finding in this case. “It is outrageous that any citizen be coerced into attending religious services or programs that ‘push’ religion in any form.”

Buckner noted that just weeks after Mr. Hazel protested the violation of his rights, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation issued an order to all parole agents pointing out that they “cannot compel” a parolee to participate in any religion-themed program.

Dave Silverman, Vice President and Communications Director for American Atheists said that while Atheists and other non-believers make up a very small percentage of prison populations — by some studies far less than one percent
(see: http://freethoughtp edia.com/ wiki/Percentage_ of_atheists# Atheists_ In_Prison) — “violating someone’s religious liberty and freedom from religion is not some kind of a numbers game.

“There are secular programs for drug and alcohol rehabilitation that are available, and the government has an obligation to respect the rights of any incarcerated individual to refuse religious ‘treatment’. ”

AMERICAN ATHEISTS is a nationwide movement that defends civil rights for Atheists, Freethinkers and other nonbelievers; works for the total separation of church and state; and addresses issues of First Amendment public policy
