Answer by J.W.
Policies pertaining to applicants and past drug use vary depending on the department. Some police departments wouldn’t consider you due to your use of cocaine. Some would still consider you since it has been so long since you’ve last used it. Some departments wouldn’t consider you because it has been less than 5 years since you’ve used marijuana. The Tylenol probably won’t be much of an issue. Getting police officer jobs is becoming more and more competitive. There are likely to be other applicants with similar qualifications as you or better qualifications than you that haven’t used illegal drugs, especially cocaine. I would wait a couple more years before you apply. Spend that time improving your resume. Get some college if you don’t have any.

How do the law enforcement officers who work in narcotics dress? Can they always wear a vest if they want to?

Question by Matin R: How do the law enforcement officers who work in narcotics dress? Can they always wear a vest if they want to?
And which agent of narcotics enforcement has the authority to make arrests?..because I hear that a lot of them just do undercover work only..I really want to get into Police narcotics and I know that I have to first become a regular patrol officer and then work my way up..But I’m not interested in undercover..I just want to have the authority to go after drug dealers and make arrests.

Best answer:

Answer by Robert
Ok, I’m gonna answer this the best I can.

Narcotic officers can arrest people at any time, they can pull you over if they want. Generally they are plain clothed. If they are in “uniform” it’s typically camo with a department t-shirt and they’ll have a badge in sight (typically) and you’ll see their weapon. If they are going to court they’ll usually be in a suit. If they need to be in uniform they’ll be in uniform. They come into my work a lot and they’re typically in camo pants and a t-shirt.

To answer your question you can arrest drug dealers if you are a police officer. You just have to catch them! But you wont be going around making buys and doing investigating really… you just have to catch them with the drugs!

Will I be able to reach a Career in Law Enforcement after i had done Meth in the past?

Question by -Nile- 1er: Will I be able to reach a Career in Law Enforcement after i had done Meth in the past?
i’ve done Crystal Meth and Cocaine.

Best answer:

Answer by Lynn Bodoni
Nope. You have to have “good moral character” for most police departments or other law enforcement agencies to hire you. Abusing drugs is pretty much an automatic disqualification.

Just do an internet search for “ qualification”, for instance, “Gotham City New York police officer qualification”, and you will find out what requirements each agency has…and what will disqualify you.

How does law enforcement get away with tasting the cocaine at the crime scene?

Question by shlomogon: How does law enforcement get away with tasting the cocaine at the crime scene?
I see this in movies. I don’t know if it is true. I would dare to say that an officer of the law would not actually taste the drug to verify it is actually an illicit drug, i.e. cocaine. I believe there would have to be lab tests. Otherwise the officer would pop positive on a drug test.

Best answer:

Answer by Bob G…The return of
No. The drug war always will be a failure.

Instead, I believe that by decriminalizing drugs the problem associated with them can be drastically reduced. Revenue also would be increased.

I do not use drugs or even drink alcohol.

Why does Law Enforcement call Cocaine and marijuana a narcotic?

Question by Dynodikk: Why does Law Enforcement call Cocaine and marijuana a narcotic?
It isn’t, any shape or form. Narcotics are opiate pain-killers. If they are basing this because they intoxicate, than alcohol is a narcotic and a drug.

Best answer:

Answer by laughter_every_day
just shorthand for any illegal controlled substance. The actual laws do not call cocaine a narcotic, but in casual conversation most cops just use the term as being synonymous with any controlled substance.

Is Mexico more stringent on it’s immigration laws than it is on its Drug enforcement laws?

Question by Buffalo soldier: Is Mexico more stringent on it’s immigration laws than it is on its Drug enforcement laws?
I get the feeling that the Mexican authorities are more strict in enforcing their immigration laws than they are at enforcing their drug laws. I mean the US has sent billions already to Mexico so that it can enforce its drug laws, but the Mexican officials seem only to care about booting out illegal immigrants and taking their assets.

Are the law enforcement and fight to eradicate drugs hopeless?

Question by A Military Veteran (Erudite): Are the law enforcement and fight to eradicate drugs hopeless?
I’m 62 years old. Why is it that after 40 years of trying to stop drugs there are just as many drugs available on the street as the year 1968? After billions spent to stop drugs the law enforcement teams still can’t stop the flow of drugs.

Best answer:

Answer by Moose
Yes, completely.

Follow the money. Somebody is getting paid big time to continue the farce called the “war on drugs.” Prohibition of a commodity the public wants only raises the price and enriches the criminal, nothing more, nothing less. Drug laws are a bad, expensive, joke.

EDIT: Please notice the posts that argue for continued illegality. They are circular and never come up with a reason for drugs being illegal. Bad for you? So are fatty foods. We don’t arrest and incarcerate donut salesmen. Get over your God complex guys.
