I’m having a hard time tieing it all together to come up with a closing.

Drunk Driving: Something Must Be Done
He never thought it would happen to him…..After having a few drinks he got into his car and headed home, but he never made it. He was drunk and driving and in his own little world, when out of nowhere someone pulled out in front of him. He never had a chance to stop…. And just like that his life and family was gone.
Drunk Driving is considered a serious crime; it is wrong, irresponsible and destroys many lives. Every thirty minutes someone is killed in an alcohol related crash and every two minutes someone else has been injured, according to (http://www.edgarsnyder.com/drunk-driving/statistics.html drunk driving statistics for the United States. Every person needs to be held accountable to for their actions, getting behind the wheel after a night of drinking out hascan have serious consequences; possibly killing or hurting yourself and others, losssing you of one’s drivers licenses and oneyou could have to spend time in jail as well as having hefty fines.
Alcoholic Alcohol is one theof the most abused substances in the United States weather the user is of age or not with no regard to the age of the individual user .For most users their first influence with drinking begins in childhood, they grow up watching their relativities drink in front of them. To some this is considered a normal thing.
Drunk driving is a very serious problem in our society today. People go out and party without a thought and thought or care and then with their liquid courage, they decide to drive putting everyone at risk, they have slower reaction and impaired judgment and they cause about seventy two thousand five hundred in 2008 there was an estimated eleven thousand seven hundred and seventy three people that died in drunk driving crashes, according to www.madd.org Mothers Against Drunk Drivers).deaths each year. Drivers need to think before entering into a vehicle after drinking, there is no excuse for drinking and driving, no excuse for being irresponsible. If someone chooses to go out and drink they need to take a cab home. Even one drink many be too much.
Everyday people are arrested for driving under the influence, while law enforcement agencies continue to crack down on these dangerous offenders, for many of these drivers this will not be there first DUI offense according to (alcoholism.about.com/cs/drive/a/aa082797.htmIf a drunk driver gets caught drinking they could have to do up to one year in jail These drivers may be supervised to find that penalties for DUI even if it is there first offense, have increased due to groups like Mothers Against Drunk Drivers. Groups like these and many others have helped to pass hundreds of new laws to stop drinking driving Nationwide since 1980. , these days it is said that one DUI could cost you ten thousand dollars, which is a lot of money for one night of fun although the fines and consequences could be much worse. In order to bring down the number of DUI states have taken some effective measures such as immediate license suspension, lowering the blood alcohol consummation levels, setting up sobriety checkpoints, and media campaigns about the danger of drink and drink.

When it comes to drinking and driving some feels there are some people that feel that celebrities get special treatment. Lindsay Lohan was arrested after crashing her car into a treetree; where she was found to have been drinking and was in possession of a small amount of cocaine. Lindsay took a plea deal on a misdemeanor drunk driving and possession charge where is she only served eighty four minutes in jail. Her original sentence was a day in jail but due to overcrowding in the jail she was sent free. What does this say to our society? If celebrities can get away with it why can’t we. This isn’t a good message to be sending out to our society.

Why isn’t there a drunk driver registry? Or a manslaughter registry?

We have a sex offender registry, that parades these guys – Well what about the drunk driver that killed a family of 5 and is out of prison in 8 years on good behavior? How can we track them- alcoholism has an extremely high recidivism rate. Or what about the people that were convicted of manslaughter or murder but released form prison on parole? A murder could move in right next door and I would never know it!!

Hu,mmm – for that matter why don’t we just have a FELONY registry – to track ALL convicted felons????

How can I stop acting cold to my parents because of their son who is an bad drunk ?

My brother has a drinking problem, he is 33 yrs old…He went to rehab for 35 days (court ordered)…He came home 3 weeks ago and started drinking again (that night). He is now in a hospital since he tried to take his own life the other day, which I have no sympathy for since it’s all for attention… Drinking issue affects everyone…That is what some people don’t realize…This has been going on for 15 years in my life..I’m the youngest and boy was it a tough life with him…My parents want the best for him but how some parents react is to hide and baby their kids…He is 33 but when he needs something he is 12 again…My brother lost his family…3 beautiful kids and his wife and he is only an inch a way from losing me…I have his kids pretty much every weekend and love them with all my heart…their mom is really the same as my brother with drinking except she isn’t violent but she is not a good role model at all… but according to social services she is great..I refuse to mess with the system cause I couldn’t bear it to backfire and me to never see the kids or even not see them for 2 weeks…My problem is I get angry and fight with my parents over him all the time..I get pissed at the mention of his name..even though I do care I refuse to admit it to them..:example: I live 45min from my family because of my brother… I just called my mom for something totally unrelated to my brother and within 3 seconds of “Hello” she was telling me about my brother…(same story over and over again) I cut it off and say “I can’t do this, I don’t care”..she gets upset and says…I’ll talk to you later…I’m at a loss how to handle myself…IDEAS???

Discrediting a witness for being drunk?? Please Help!!!?

First off i live in Gainesville Florida and am a student a UF. About a month ago my 2 roommates and I left a party to find that my and many other cars had been keyed. Mine especially very badly over 2000 in damages. I was semi drunk so I got very angry and punched through the window of the car next to mine. Then after that i kicked another car somewhere in the lot. Long story short i went back to into the party by my self to try to find who had done it. While gone the police showed up and questioned my roommate on what happened. Apparently he told the officer that i had keyed and damaged a few cars in the lot. Then he went car to car and said i did all the damage in the lot. He is a complete idiot. He was incredible wasted and on Xanax when he made the statement. The originall charge was 16 counts of criminal mischief but then reduced to 14 because he pointed out 2 cars that were previously damaged (idiot). My other roommate who saw the whole thing kept his mouth shut and said he saw nothing (genius). He is the only witness in the case and the only evidence against me. How would i go about discrediting him? My other roommate and I are both thinking we can discredit him as a drug addict becuse he has been in and out of rehab and that night he had drinking about 20-25 drinks (some shots mostly beer) Would this work? Any help would be great
The two cars where the charges were dropped had no damage at all. He also wrote a statement which i have yet to get a copy of. Just got the pretrial paper today now there only charging me on 4 counts of criminal mischief. I do have a lawyer hes trying to work some kind of plea bargain out. iv told every one but my lawyer that i wasn’t drunk and that i didn’t touch a single car in the lot so its more or less my word against his. and i was hoping since its my word against his that I could make him look like a piece of **** low life (because he is) he already has an assault charge graduated high school with a 1.8 and has been court order to rehab and is a severe drug (Xannax 10-15 every day) addict.
ok cool i know im an idiot save your lectures. now im just trying to keep all this off my record

future drunk driving solutions?

How about since the government regulates and sells all alcoholic berverages in the United States, they should be responsible for comming up with a great solution – like mandatory shuttle buses stationed at every bar that sells liqour. It is like they are handing you the keys to a lamborgini and telling you not to speed? I am confused

What are the penalties for a drunk in public for someone who is on summary probation for Wreckless Driving?

I was picked up from a nightclub because the club had accused me of running up a 1500 dollar bar tab. This amount is obviously outrageous! It was my birthday and my friends were buying me drinks. I only bought 5-6 drinks. I argued to the bouncers and they called the police and told them I was drunk, not cooperating and that I didn’t want to pay my tab. I was arrested. About one and a half years ago I got a DUI witch was reduced to wreckless driving. Along with the conviction I was placed on summary probation. I completed all of the classes that were required, but I failed to completely pay off the fine. When I was arrested for the drunk in public a warrant came up because of the unpaid fine. My question is what kind of punishment will I receive and what should I do? Also, is it worth fighting? P.s. I have two seperate court dates, in two seperate court houses (one for the drunk in public and the other for the warrant about the unpaid fine.)
I live in California
Also, the club gave me my credit card back and there were absolutely no charges on the card…not even for the drinks I really did buy.
I am finsishing college with my B.A. and I already work a fulltime job. One last thing. I don’t drink often. It was my birthday! The last time I had a drink was on New Years Eve.

Who agrees if that first offense drunk driving should be mandatory loss of driving privileges for life?

When is our country the government and people going to start punishing drunk drivers to show them they have a disease called alcoholism and are a threat to life and are destroying relationships and family. My wifes son and daughter-in-law and baby grandson were almost killed by a drunk driver who ran a red light and totalled their vehicle. She will probably be ordered by the court to go to AA for her probation as most offenders will not stay in AA after their probation is up, and she will get drunk again and maybe next time kill somebody drunk driving. If you have a problem with drinking please get help. If you kill a person drunk driving you will go to prison, and 10 years for manslaughter is a long time not to mention the emotional pain you will never get over in killing a life. If I ever see another person with an alcoholic beverage in their hand I will take it from you and I will dump it down the sink. Try fight me for it cause it don’t matter if you hit me for i’ll put you in jail

How should I deal with needing a ride from my mom when shes drunk?

My moms an alcoholic, and I’m 15 so I can’t drive yet so I need her to drive me when I need to go places. Today, I had a drivers ed parent/student meeting and she was drunk but it was mandatory and my dad had work so I didn’t have a choice whether or not to go with her.
It was so freaking scary, and I really don’t want this to happen again, what should I do? Or am I overreacting?
Thanks for all your answers!

I don’t think getting her help is really an option, shes been sent to rehab twice, one of them was $20,000 a day (bye bye college…) and shes still not better.

The problem is she wouldn’t admit she was drunk, I could smell it on her and could tell by the way she acted, but she still wouldn’t admit it. So its really kind of hard to talk to her about it when shes denying it.
