So I guess these little fat 8 yr olds who eat happy meals do so because they are stoned?
Or maybe grandpa who is overweight because he likes a little toke here and there, not the bacon and eggs he eats every morning?

We don't need the government to tell us how to live every aspect of our lives, therefore, they should butt out of our food and beverage choices. I rarely drink sodas and did not allow my family to have unlimited access to them but I don't want the government telling me what I can or cannot have. I am all for encouraging and educating our kids about healthy eating and exercise but the fact is that high carb foods are cheaper than healthier, fresh foods. Some lower income people cannot afford to eat healthier or don't know how to make better choices. Then there are people who eat whatever is fast or convenient.

And, yes, I would think our tax dollars would be better spent on keeping us safe from addictive substances and the crimes that sometimes result from addiction. I am very concerned about the rise in addiction to prescription drugs. Instead of treating the root cause for peoples problems addictive painkillers are handed out like candy.

Interesting how the left has been railing against Arizona and its less intrusive than federal immigration law, but not a word over various cities/states usurping Federal law on marijuana, which is a blatant violation of federal law and is against the US Constitution supremacy clause.

And lets not even mention "sanctuary" cites that are in violation of Federal law and the US Constitution supremacy clause.

But again it is an issue of personal responsibility, I do not need to the government to tell me sugar causes tooth decay and contributes to obesity but is oh so sweet!

I'm going to laugh when the alternative to sugar they put out is found to cause cancer a few years from now!!! I think I'd rather be a little over weight than die of cancer!

Enforce drug laws if you must, but marijuana is a plant. Prosecuting people for pot is a waste of my tax dollars. Countless lives destroyed over a stupid plant because it could have competed with the oil industry. Been to countless funerals that are alcohol related, no one ever died from smoking marijuana.
Edit : gws makes a good point, but if cultivation were legal in the US, there would be no need to have it smuggled in.

Yes, and also drug users provide a market for drugs being smuggled into the country by illegal aliens, so they are just like the businesses that hire illegals. They are the ones who provide an incentive for illegals to enter the county.

So WHY do leftists only want to punish the businesses (a.k.a CAPITALISM), even put them in jail, yet they resist suggestions of treating drug users the same way. BTW, drug use is ALREADY ILLEGAL.....

Proving once again, leftists have no concept of what the word "illegal" means....

That's some tortured logic there. I guess anything that could possibly cause obesity should be banned then, correct? I mean, marijuana doesn't cause obesity directly, a person doesn't have to each just because they've got the munchies. So should we ban anything that makes a person hungry?

I believe, from what I've heard, that meth is worse. But I've had some really bad trips on mushrooms. psyliciban is a poison. meth is a combination of many poisons.

But the law is an a** so who knows.

Billions of dollars and thousands of lives have been wasted in the idiotic "War on Drugs".

Stricter laws are not necessary--sensible laws and reasonable enforcement are what are necessary.
