Britain is probably more ‘strict’.

However, it is the enforcement that counts at the moment not the law, and both nations have bad drug problems.

The US and UK are not that much different. But the US doesn’t have the most strict in the world. There are places that will put you in prison for many, many years for the slightest violation.

The US does not have the strictest anti-drug laws by any measure. It’s not even close. In many countries you can get the death penalty or face life imprisonment for trafficking in drugs. Other drugs (like amphetamines) that are totally illegal in many other countries are legal with a prescription and routinely given to children who act up in school.

There are no universal American drug laws. Every state has different laws and they vary wildly. In some states marijuana is legal if you have a valid prescription from a doctor (though it is still technically illegal at the national level). In other states possession of limited quantities of marijuana is a minor infraction, equivalent to a parking ticket. In yet other states drug possession is taken very seriously and you can get charged for having less than 2 grams of marijuana.

Penalties for other drugs vary wildly as well.
