How does the NFL Drug policy work in regards to state laws?

Question by Ramman: How does the NFL Drug policy work in regards to state laws?
I mean I am watching the Minn/Houston game and they said because of Minnesota drug laws this guy for the Vikings might not be suspended for 4 games because of state law. How can this be?

Its both of Minnesota’s defensive tackles, Pat and Kevin Williams. And they are trying to claim that the illegal supplement that they took, which helps to mask steroids, is okay, because they didn’t know what they were taking, and a Minnesota workplace law favors that.

However, it violates the Collective Bargaining Agreement that the players have to sign to play in the NFL. The Williams’s are trying to keep the case in the state of Minnesota, while the NFL wants to take it to the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Chances are that the NFL is going to win one way or the other, and the Williams’s will either be suspended for 4 games during the season for violating the Drug Policy, or be punished in some way for violating the league’s Collective Bargaining Agreement.
