Do you think Ted Kennedy suffers guilt, leaving Mary Jo Kopechne to drown, to protect his political ambition?

Now that Ted is near the end of his life, there are questions remaining about his past; news stories that he has attempted to apologize for killing Mary Jo Kopechne, are recently out.

1) Do you think Ted feels any guilt or remorse for bullying the Kopechne family and manipulating the prosecutors from charging him with felony manslaughter & DUI & leaving the scene of a fatal accident ? Ted never spent a night in jail for the crime that any other American would have done 20 years in prison.

2) Knowing that Mary Jo could have been saved, if Ted went to a nearby house, to phone rescue workers, instead of leaving the scene to sober up, does that crime bother Teddy? Does he have any conscience? Does his ambition justify his crime, in his own mind?

2) Will Ted go to heaven for his legacy of raising the minimum wage for high school students OR does leading a selfish life, alcoholism, adultery, hard drug usage, helping his nephew escape justice for raping an innocent woman, secretly funding the IRA to bomb and murder innocent English civilians, do these sins affect his chances of going to heaven?

Have you ever wondered how all Teddy’s sins, failures, cheating, crimes, selfishness, hurting innocent people has not affected his standings as one of the brightest stars within the democratic party?

Only Sen Byrd, former leader of the KKK, has a longer history as senior democratic senator- what does this say about liberal leaders?

Is Teddy’s commitment to socialism worth all his crimes and wrong-doings?

We have a Kennedy apologist, Michael p-brain, who repeats the tallking points of moveontosocialism.org, to spin lies, to deny the truth. Michaelp has never read any of the books about Chappaquiddic and knows nothing about the subject.

normally, i’d say that they’re hypocrites, but i’m just going to go with not judging someone for something they did 30+ years ago.

Not at all… I`m sure if Bush was around at that time they would have blamed it on to him as well

Ya think maybe Dick Cheney might feel that same remorse for shooting someone and never even getting charged with or even investigated as a crime? That was MUCH more recent… why aren’t you asking about that??

And the thumb down is for what?? Am I not speaking factual? or are you just one of those trolls who thumb down anyone regardless of the content if it mentions the hypocracy of the Republicans?

I wonder how much money Mothers Against Drunk Driving has donated to Ted “Drunk driving is my birthright” Kennedy over the years. That would be interesting to look up.

Makes what some republican politicians did, look tame.
I think Ted is getting what he deserves and it should have happened sooner.
The definition of corrupt politician will lie under the word Kennedy.

Why are you bringing up something that happened over 40 years ago, that isn’t even true, when we had a President for 8 years who left this country crippled?

Guilt and Kennedy in the same sentence! ROTFLMAO!!

It would be nice if the Legal Forces of MA ordered an exhumation of Ms Kopechne to ascertain if she was pregnant and whether her inability to escape the car may have been due to damage to the larynx and/or disc-like finger-tip bruises.

The story of Ms Kopechne’s body being removed from MA and buried in PA without an investigation and a special visit by Cardinal Cushing to the Kopechne family to avoid an exhumation is telling itself.

    Phil — WHAT Autopsy?

If you believe half that crap, then you have more wrong with your brain than Ted does with his — and unlike Ted, it’s by choice.

Of course he feels guilt for not saving her. He tried. He dove in several times to try to save her. He couldn’t do it. He failed.

He did not design that pathetically small one-lane wooden bridge that has since been replaced by a modern four-lane structure. Nor did he decide it should be unlighted. Any of us could have had the same thing happen.

There is no evidence that Ted was drunk or that Mary Jo was anything to him other than someone who worked for his brother Bobby (thus her invitation to the barbecue that night) and someone he thought deserved the favor of being driven back to the “mainland” of Martha’s Vineyard. And he was never charged with drunk driving. He pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident — and can you honestly say that, after going through something like that and being scared of what was happening, you would have done the rational thing? Contrast that with George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, both convicted of drunk driving before being nominated for the 2000 Republican ticket.

There are plenty of Kennedy-haters who have lived selfish lives — it’s almost a requirement for membership in the Republican Party — engaged in substance abuse, adultery, and things like that. William Kennedy Smith did not escape justice: He went to trial and was acquitted. Ted funded the IRA? How about Ronald Reagan giving weapons to the future Taliban, the future al-Qaeda, Saddam Hussein and Iran? They killed a lot more people; by contrast, the IRA eventually worked to get peace in Northern Ireland.

And Robert Byrd was never a leader of the KKK, and renounced his actions with them. By contrast, Trent Lott has never renounced his work with the Council of Conservative Citizens — notice the initials? Nor has he renounced the Strom Thurmond campaign of 1948, even though Thurmond himself made efforts to make up for it by working on behalf of both races as a Senator.

And finally, you don’t know what socialism is. A true socialist would never vote for a Democrat, because they see the Democratic Party and liberals as sellouts.

Ted Kennedy will get to heaven, but he’ll never see you there, you lying right-winger.

Basically all of what you said is pure speculation and none has been proven in a court of law.

Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. Mk. 4.24

And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.
    Lk. 6.3738, 4142

Ted Kennedy defined his character when he killed that innocent girl, then intimidated the victim’ family, forcing them to take a meager settlement, to remain silent about his crime. The local authorities were
    also threatened by the Kennedys.

Based on Teddy’s life, I would say he has little remorse. Never under estimate the arrogance of a liberal; add the arrogance of an elitism of being a Kennedy, its highly unlikely Teddy ever suffered guilt for his horrific crime.

He never stopped drinking after his DUI, did he?
