My question is: Should I have not responded at all because I couldn’t answer her question? Or should I have worded it differently and if so how (and wouldn’t that be a violation anyway)? Or should Yahoo have done something different?

well you were just making a valid point so i guess not

It is an automated response. I do not feel you should have had a violation. Yahoo does not read most of the things it gets. We have all seen that. Maybe you should have added something to the effect of call a help line. That is all I can think of.

I would have left it as it was. Sports people usually have a knowledge outside sports

When I see a question like that, I either don’t answer the question and just report it, or I answer the question AND say what you’ve said.

Your second sentence could have been the reason:
“Hockey people are not primarily noted for highly developed social skills.”
There are just way too many sensitive people who use the report abuse tool.

I can’t believe these misplaced question aren’t considered fair game. I got one for answering a question about some person having trouble swallowing. And I was nice about it too. Well, sort of nice, for CME anyway.

Well I got six violation notices for telling the poster that they were in the wrong section.
My answer was simply “Not a hockey question”. in all six cases. However in four other cases the answer was acceptable. It must have something to do with AT&T.

i feel your pain….i woke up to a violation this morning for an answer i posted yesterday. all i merely said was “this isn’t the homework help section” for a question regarding weights or some bullsh*t. i’ve got quite a bit of time on my hands this morning so i’ve been reporting questions in the hockey section as spam. i think people who post questions in the wrong sections are the ones who should lose the points. maybe it’ll make them read the screen next time? probably not though.

its a very stupid violation yes but still a violation. If you worded it to help the person while pointing out that this is the hockey section then you wouldn’t have been violation anything. Kind of like what I’m doing now telling you this is the hockey section not the yahoo answers section(were it should be) but i still answered your question

if everyone quit answering the non-hockey questions, and reported them.. there would be no violation notices. i feel for you though.

Say what you said and add.
I would try to contact a doctor or somebody in that field of work.
